Which online design tool plugin should a printing company selling custom t-shirts and business cards use?
A printing company that sells both custom t-shirts and business cards needs one design tool that handles a garment's front and back print areas and a flat card with bleed, and sends a print-ready file for each. Printcart, our product, is a plugin for WooCommerce and an app for Shopify and Wix whose page lists apparel and business cards among the supported products. InkSoft and DesignNBuy are hosted platforms rather than plugins for your own store.
| Tool | How it runs | T-shirts and business cards on its pages | Print files | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Printcart | Plugin on your WooCommerce store; apps for Shopify and Wix | "Apparel, drinkware, business cards, promotional materials, signage, labels" among supported products; buyers can design both sides of a product | PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG CMYK with every order | WooCommerce plugin page |
| InkSoft | Fully hosted, not available for self-hosting | Customers design and order "customized print, apparel, and promotional products" online; made for apparel decorators, promotional product distributors and print businesses | Print-ready and production-ready PDFs | Designer page, home page |
| DesignNBuy | Hosted; ready plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento | Its product menu lists business cards and t-shirt printing, and its software menu a business card and an apparel design tool | Production-ready files with CMYK, bleed and trim marks | Home page, pricing |
The two products behave differently on a store. A t-shirt sells by size and colour, with the design placed on the front, back or sleeve and printed by DTG, screen or transfer; a business card sells by paper, finish and quantity, with the price set by a matrix. Printcart's business card store teardown shows the option combinations and price matrix of its business card demo, and the T-shirt printing store shows the apparel side.
How did we compare these products?
We checked Printcart, InkSoft and DesignNBuy on the same seven criteria: supported platforms, print files produced, price and billing period, free plan, trial or demo, customer artwork upload, API access and support. Every statement about a competitor links to the public page it came from and was checked on 26 October 2026 against the company's own pages; anything that could not be checked there was left out.
If you are new to the topic, start with what web-to-print is and how a print shop uses it. Shops that already sell on WooCommerce can compare designer plugins in our WooCommerce product designer comparison, and shops still choosing a store platform can start with ecommerce platforms for print businesses. Shops that would rather build an editor into their own systems through an API can compare Customer's Canvas alternatives, and shops that need an editor only, for photobooks or cards, can compare Printess alternatives for print product editors.
Which criteria matter most for a small print shop?
For a small print shop, the deciding criteria are who runs the software and what it costs in the first year, because a small team has little time for server work and a fixed cost weighs more on a small order volume. Hosted software takes the server work off your hands; a plugin on your own store keeps your existing site, theme and customer accounts.
Print files decide how much prepress work is left after each order. A web-to-print store should send a print-ready file with the order, in CMYK and a format your press accepts, so nobody rebuilds the design by hand. The three products name PDF output; Printcart and DesignNBuy also name CMYK.
Customer upload matters because many small-shop orders start with the customer's own file: a logo, a finished flyer or a photo. Printcart's artwork upload lets the merchant set file types, the number of uploads, size limits and a minimum DPI, and an online product designer covers customers who arrive without a file.
Running the software yourself and having it hosted divide the work differently. With a plugin, your host and your team keep WordPress, WooCommerce and the plugin updated, and you keep control of the store, its data and its design. With hosted software, the vendor runs the servers and updates, and your storefronts live inside the vendor's platform and plan limits, such as the 100 active stores and 5 users of InkSoft's Standard Plan.
A trial or demo matters before you commit to a monthly fee. A free plan lets you build a real product; a tour or a proof-of-concept shows the software on someone else's setup. API access and a named success manager matter later, and both sit on higher plans in the sources below.
What does Printcart offer for small print shops?
Printcart's WordPress/WooCommerce plugin runs on your own store and needs WordPress 5.0 or higher, PHP 7.4 or higher, and WooCommerce. It produces high-resolution print-ready files in PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG CMYK, and customers upload their own artwork within the limits the merchant sets.
Printcart's store plans list a Free plan, with an online designer on the storefront, limited products and storage, CMYK print-ready export and community support, and a Premium plan with up to 100 products with the public designer, 500 order-upload file downloads per month and priority support, at $49 a month billed monthly or $299 a year billed yearly, as of 26 October 2026. The Printcart Cloud Print API can pass orders to automated fulfillment, paid plans add full API automation, and the plugin page names a ticket from the support dashboard, live chat and email.
Printcart also lists a migration service for shops moving an existing web-to-print setup over.
What does InkSoft offer for small print shops?
InkSoft is fully hosted software at $314/month on its Standard Plan, with a free one-time software license, 100 active stores and 5 users, as of 26 October 2026, according to its pricing page. Its support page says it is "100% web-based software", "not available for self-hosting", and that InkSoft does not offer a trial version but gives a personalized, behind-the-scenes tour instead.
InkSoft calls itself an e-commerce platform for custom branded merchandise. It produces print-ready and production-ready PDFs, and its online designer includes a "Powerful artwork upload and edit tool". InkSoft has an API that lets professional developers build custom solutions, and says most customers do not need to interact with it directly. The support page lists a support phone line, support@inksoft.com, a Help Center and a Status page, with free technical support and free 1-on-1 onboarding training.
What does DesignNBuy offer for small print shops?
DesignNBuy's Starter plan is $140/month billed monthly, or $90/month billed yearly, plus a one-time setup fee, hosted and with no dedicated CSM, as of 26 October 2026, according to its pricing page. The page offers a free proof-of-concept and a free demo, and includes "Upload and Order (Customer Artwork)" on every plan.
On the same page, Starter and Growth are hosted and Enterprise is "Hosted (Independent)"; every plan includes basic eCommerce integration (WordPress, Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento), with ready plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento, and the page also offers a perpetual license as a one-time payment. Its home page says every order generates production-ready files automatically, including CMYK color format, bleed and trim marks, and high-resolution output, and lists phone numbers labelled USA, CA, UK and Sweden. Webhooks/API access is listed on Growth and Enterprise, marked "-" for Starter; a dedicated customer success manager comes with Growth and Enterprise, and personalized training is 8 hours on Starter and 16 on Growth.
What does the first year cost for a small print shop?
The first year of the paid entry plans costs from $299 for Printcart Premium billed yearly to $3,768 for InkSoft's Standard Plan, before setup fees, as of 26 October 2026: the sums multiply the monthly prices on the InkSoft, DesignNBuy and Printcart pricing pages by 12, or take the yearly price. Printcart also lists a Free plan with limited products and storage.
| Product and entry plan | 12 months, billed monthly | 12 months, billed yearly | Also charged | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Printcart Premium | $588 | $299 | Up to 100 products with the public designer, 500 order-upload file downloads per month | Printcart store plans |
| InkSoft Standard Plan | $3,768 | Not listed | Free one-time software license; 100 active stores, 5 users | InkSoft pricing |
| DesignNBuy Starter | $1,680 | $1,080 | One-time setup fee; the page does not show the amount | DesignNBuy pricing |
A shop that wants a ready-made web-to-print store set up for it, instead of software to configure, can compare Printcart's full-store packages: the Store package is USD 799 a year with the Printcart Premium licence and 10 of your products set up. The WordPress print shop store and the business card printing store show the result with live demos.

Compare prices on the same billing period: the table above gives each price with its billing period, setup fee and plan limits. Features such as API access or a dedicated success manager sit on a higher plan in the sources above. Ask each vendor to confirm current pricing, the setup fee and what a tour, demo or proof-of-concept includes before committing.
Bring one real order to every demo: a product with the options you sell and a customer file, and ask to see the file that reaches production. Ask, too, who answers support questions after launch and through which channel. To score each product on the same points, use the web-to-print software scorecard.
